Offline files, sync and backup

These features need CloudMount Pro.

Make available offline on a file or folder keeps a copy on the phone:

  • Offline copies are used first, on any network, so they open instantly; CloudMount checks them against the drive in the background.
  • Without a connection, folders with offline files are listed from the copies, in CloudMount and in the Files app.
  • Copies refresh every six hours, on Wi-Fi only by default (Settings → Refresh offline files on Wi-Fi only). A copy more than a day old shows Needs refresh.
  • Offline files are limited to 1 GB by default (Settings → Offline files limit, from 256 MB to 10 GB). CloudMount stops adding copies at the limit.
  • If a file kept offline is deleted on the drive, its copy is removed and CloudMount tells you.
  • Offline library lists everything kept offline across drives, with the space each drive uses.

Unlike the file cache, offline copies are never evicted to make room.

A sync folder pairs a folder on the phone with a folder on a drive:

Direction What it does
Two-way Changes on either side are copied to the other, including deletions. Uses rclone’s bisync.
Upload only Copies new and changed files from the phone to the drive. Never deletes.
Download only Copies new and changed files from the drive to the phone. Never deletes.
  • Schedule: every 15 minutes, hour, 6 hours (the default), 12 hours or day, on Wi-Fi only by default, and optionally only while charging.
  • Conflicts in two-way sync: Keep both (the default; the older copy gets a .conflict name) or Newer wins.
  • First run: you see a preview first, and nothing is deleted on the first sync.
  • Safety stops: a sync stops instead of continuing when more than half of the files on one side were deleted, when every file seems to have changed (for example after a clock or time zone jump), or when its record of the last sync is lost. You can then check and Rebuild.
  • History and log show the last 20 runs, with Share log.
  • The folders and direction can’t be changed after saving; make a new sync folder instead.

Sync folders need All files access, because they read and write ordinary folders on the phone. Only folders on the phone’s storage can be synced.

Settings → Uploads → Photo and video backup uploads new photos and videos from the camera roll or any album to a folder on a drive:

  • New items are picked up within seconds while CloudMount is running, and otherwise by a check every 15 minutes, which Android may delay to save battery. Backups run on Wi-Fi only by default, and optionally only while charging. Upload rules in Settings apply too.
  • When you set up a rule, choose whether to also back up what’s already there: nothing (the default), the last month, 6 months, one or two years, or everything. Older items upload newest first.
  • Nothing is ever deleted from the phone.
  • If you gave CloudMount access to selected photos only, it can back up only those, and nothing taken later.

To back up into a vault, pick the vault as the rule’s drive, or choose New encrypted vault to make one for the backup: pick the drive and folder to keep it in, and save its recovery kit. The storage service sees only scrambled names and data. Without the vault’s key, nobody can open the backups; see Keep the key safe.
