Files.com is a cloud storage service that provides a secure and easy way to store and share files.

The initial setup for filescom involves authenticating with your Files.com account. You can do this by providing your site subdomain, username, and password. Alternatively, you can authenticate using an API Key from Files.com. rclone config walks you through it.

In CloudMount you add this drive from the Add drive screen, and the wizard asks for the options listed under Options. The notes below come from rclone’s setup guide.

In addition to the default restricted characters set the following characters are also replaced:

Character Value Replacement
\ 0x5C \

File names can also not end with the following characters. These only get replaced if they are the last character in the name:

Character Value Replacement
SP 0x20 ␠
LF 0x0A ␊
CR 0x0D ␍
HT 0x09 ␉
VT 0x0B ␋

Invalid UTF-8 bytes will also be replaced.

Files.com treats the replacements / and \ as if they were / and \, and the names . and .. as if they were . and .., and rejects them with Invalid path. This means that files with / or \ in their names, or which are called . or .., can’t be stored on Files.com.

In December 2024 files.com started supporting more checksums.

However if you want hashes you must enable them in your site by visiting the “File Integrity” section in “Data Governance” to configure your settings and select the checksum algorithms that meet your requirements.

Rclone currently only support CRC32 and MD5 for use in syncing but selecting more checksums will not affect rclone’s operations.

For use with rclone, selecting at least MD5 is recommended so rclone can do an end to end integrity check.

The wizard asks for these when you add the drive.
